Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Prevention Services, this position is a senior position requiring strong analytical skills. This individual must have a broad base of experience working in many facets of child and family services thereby allowing for quick, sound decision-making under immense pressure including multiple stakeholder concerns and legal requirements and obligations.

The Casework Supervisor of Prevention Services is to adhere to the Mistawasis Nêhiyawak Child and Family Services Program standards and to ensure its effectiveness by monitoring and evaluating services with quality input from clients and families. The position will work with a team of professionals and partners collaboratively and effectively. In doing so, the Casework Supervisor demonstrates the ability to plan, assess, and provide a high standard of delivery of care and services.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides consultation and direction to the child and family services (CFS) team on all casework activities in the absence of the Director of Prevention Services;
  • Assist the Director with consultation and supervision to CFS personnel on all casework activities, family support activities and community activities;
  • Provide leadership, training, mentorship, support and direction to CFS staff and approves all direct service provisions within delegated expense limits;
  • Assists with monitoring and evaluating the delivery of the CFS program and its staff;
  • Ensure that decisions and actions are within the legal and regulatory parameters of applicable legislation, standards and policies;
  • Actively engage planning and development for the Mistawasis Nêhiyawak First Nation community level to improve community-based programs, supports and services;
  • The Supervisor is a key member of the team and may be asked to carry out additional duties and activities related to the effectiveness and successful implementation of the Mistawasis Nêhiyawak CFS Program as defined and assigned by the Director of Prevention Services or designate.


  • Knowledge and understanding of Bill C-92 legislation;
  • Knowledge and understanding of provincial child and family services legislation, regulations, policies and procedures;
  • Strong supervisory skills and ability to engage and encourage staff to work together as a team;
  • Ability to maintain calm in stressful and crisis situations;
  • Ability to deal with conflict situations in a professional manner;
  • Demonstrates excellent analytical skills in order to evaluate program needs and results, recognize challenges, identify causes and provide solutions;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships;
  • Possess integrity: keep sensitive information confidential and adhere to Mistawasis Nêhiyawak Policies and Procedures


  • Degree in social work from an accredited post-secondary institution;
  • Minimum of 3-5 years child and family service supervision experience and/or equivalent years experience in delivering front line child and family services and working with First Nations children, families and communities;
  • Must possess a solid understanding in CFS programming and service delivery;
  • Ability to be a registered member of the Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers (SASW) within six months of employment;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint with an ability to easily learn new software applications and experience with report writing;
  • Must produce a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening as a condition of employment;
  • Must lead a “healthy” life-style.
