Job Summary

The C.M Ledoux Health Centre requires a Community Mental Health Therapist. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Director of Health with clinical supervision through Saskatoon Tribal Council. They provide individuals, groups and families with culturally competent counseling/therapy for a wide range of psychological and/or emotional problems such as mental disorders, abuse, substance abuse and family situations. The incumbent uses holistic health evaluation techniques to develop and implement therapeutic treatment plans in a community setting. The position works alongside other health, school, community and external medical professionals such as nurse practitioners, doctors and specialists to develop treatment plans for patients. The therapist will work as a member of the Health Staff Team to ensure that services are delivered in accordance with policies and procedures set out by Chief and Council of Mistawasis Nêhiyawak.

Job Duties

  • Work in an integrated Mental Health and Addiction Team
  • Encourage people to be open to discussing issues that are occurring, individual and family counselling, primary population of intervention is adults
  • Individual and Community programming related to mental health
  • Plan mental health related prevention activities
  • Plan and administer therapeutic intervention, and act as a liaison with provincial psychiatric services
  • Crisis outreach and home visits as required during workday, contribute to on call schedule
  • Monitor treatment progress of his or her mental status
  • Case management to support and maintain mental health stability and quality of life
  • Work collaboratively with health, education and other community and external services to support the needs of the client
  • Mental Health assessments for addiction treatment applications
  • May conduct workshops or group interventions
  • Maintain written records of all interactions
  • Complete annual training required for position such as crisis intervention training
  • Maintain confidentiality of records relating to clients and treatment plans at all times
  • Act as an advocate to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations
  • Any other duties as required


  • Degree in Social Work, Counselling Psychology, Psychiatric Nursing, from an accredited college or university required
  • Ability to be licensed and registered with a provincial body
  • Minimum 3 years mental health work experience required
  • Cultural knowledge and experience working with First Nations and community
  • Strong psychosocial assessment skills
  • Excellent time management and prioritizing skills
  • Excellent communication and relationship skills when interacting with professionals or community
  • Ability to define problems, gather data, organize facts, and make valid conclusions
  • High level of sound and independent judgment, reasoning, and discretion
