SUMMARY
Reporting to Mistawasis Nêhiyawak Chief and Council, the Director of Operations shall be responsible for the direct management of the Departmental Directors. All management, administration and delivery of Mistawasis Nêhiyawak programs and services to meet the needs of the membership shall be overseen by the Director of Operations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure all programs and services are conducted within the relevant by-laws, policies and procedure of Mistawasis Nêhiyawak.
- Coordinate the development and implementation of policies, procedures and programs.
- Budget Management – coordination of all budget and funding requirements.
- Data analysis – establishment of a reporting system with Council and Department Directors.
- Preparation of agendas and resources required for community meetings.
- Work together with the Council to develop strategic plans for the community.
- Preparation and coordination of meetings with external organizations such as Federal, Provincial and other First Nations.
- Proposal development for funding initiatives.
- Evaluation and implementation of Mistawasis Nêhiyawak community plans.
- Process Improvement – Conduct needs assessment when required for a new program or services.
- Availability to attend any Council meetings required by Council.
- All other job duties assigned by the Council.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS AND ABILITIES / ATTRIBUTES
- Possess knowledge of management principles such as planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling.
- Interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to analyze and prepare all data required for proposal and budgetary development.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to multitask and motivate employees to achieve projects even during tight deadlines.
- Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, funding agencies and funding agreements.
- Sound knowledge of principles as set out by Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Affairs Canada (AANDC).
- Work flexibility is a requirement.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Business Administration degree/diploma or related field.
- 10 years or more experience working in a First Nation environment with at least 7 years in a supervisory/management role.
- Continuing education in management to ensure that requirements are maintained and changing standards are understood and kept up to date.
- General knowledge in communication using First Nation language is an asset.
OTHER
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
- Must provide a current, original, Canadian Criminal Record Check (CPIC), as a condition of employment.
