Summary

Mistawasis Education/IBC department is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual responsible for the security of the Elementary School located in Mistawasis. Providing a positive, professional image with internal/external contacts and maintaining confidentiality, discretion and flexibility in their daily work routine. We are seeking someone to join our team who will work together to provide our students with quality, value and a clear choice of a safe and comfortable place to go to school.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Surveillance – Patrol the grounds as assigned, regularly. Review surveillance cameras and monitor crowds as needed. Establish and review the identification as required to enter the building or property. Verify all doors, windows secure on the property. Escort any trespassers off the property, working in partnership with the local RCMP office and peace keepers as required.
  • Safety of staff and students is the upmost importance
  • Investigation – Respond to any alerts of suspicious activity.
  • Monitoring visitors – sign in sign out at the front desk.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Must maintain your shift at all times and not leave the premises without prior approval.
  • Testing: Must be able to pass a Drug and Alcohol test.
  • Other duties: you may expected to be part of special projects as may be reasonably required of your job role even where these may fall outside of your own department/team. You may be asked to help our students as well.

Qualifications and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • 40 – hour Security guard training certification – SK Security guard License
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Valid Class 5 SK Driver’s License
  • CPR/First Aid/AED is an asset
  • Reliable transportation to and from work
  • Acceptable CPIC and Vulnerable Sector check is required
  • Drivers Abstract
  • Respectful to all students and staff
  • Awareness of cultural sensitivity and differences.
  • Knowledge of and support of First Nations culture and traditions.
  • Experience working with First Nations communities an asset

Key Responsibilities

  • Patrol assigned areas diligently to detect and deter security threats, ensuring the safety of our students.
  • Enforce regulations to maintain order, resolve conflicts, and monitor establishment activities, fostering a secure environment for everyone.
  • Respond promptly to incidents and emergencies, taking decisive action when necessary to protect lives and property.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports of security activities, contributing to the overall safety and security of the site.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to Students, Staff and Visitors, reflecting our commitment to excellence in every interaction.
  • Collaborate closely with your reporting supervisor, fellow security guards and our valued staff and students to uphold the safety and well-being of the assigned site.
  • Escalate emergency situations to law enforcement and create incident reports.

Requirements

  • A valid Security Guard License is highly preferred, or the willingness and ability to obtain one, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective interaction with students.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations, demonstrating resilience and sound judgement in challenging circumstances.
  • Strong attention to detail and observation skills, essential for detecting and addressing security risks proactively.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, adapting to the dynamic needs of our operation.
