Summary
Mistawasis Nêhiyawak Education Department is currently seeking professional individuals for the 2024/25 academic year.
The educational assistant will be part of a team teaching approach with a major focus on special needs; and include individualized/small group instruction, life skills, computer-assisted instruction, and problem-solving.
Job Duties
- Assisting teachers in instruction, delivery and learning support for students under the Special Needs spectrum
- Working alongside the teacher to create individual programs that
- Assisting the teacher to maintain a safe a secure environment
- Assist teacher to provide services to students such as OT, Physical therapy, Speech and Language, etc
- Monitor and report student progress daily through consultation with the homeroom teacher
- Perform other duties assigned by administration such as monthly reports, subbing in the classroom, etc.
- EA works directly under the Special Education teacher and provides support for students with high special needs
- Assisting with field trips recess, classroom trips, fundraising, PE, cultural events, activities, etc.
- Participate in professional development as required
- Participate with classroom teacher during parent teacher interviews with designated students only
- Providing a safe, enriching and engaging environment in the classroom
- Keep up to date with policy and procedures
Qualifications
- Grade 12 standing or equivalency
- Early Childhood Orientation or equivalent
- Training in child development and/or comparative training
- Willing to take further training- REQUIRED
- Experience with children in a school setting
- Understanding and Awareness of local Cultural milieu
- Applicants must possess a good “Attitude” and be able to take Direction.
- Willing and able to work with children with diverse and specific needs
- Individual with PATIENCE and INITIATIVE/WILLINGNESS TO ADAPT
- Class 5 Driver’s license is an asset
- Successful applicant will be required to submit a Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Search
