Job Summary

The Headstart Coordinator assumes responsibility for the day to day operation of the Early Learning Headstart program. The Coordinator is responsible for program planning, working effectively with staff, working with families and children, connecting with the community, mentoring students and administrative responsibilities related to the day to day operations of the Early Learning Headstart Centre.

Job Duties

  • Assist with the development and monitoring of the Early Learning Headstart Program budget.
  • Ensure that adequate records are maintained and compiled for the Saskatoon Tribal Council and Director of Education so that they can report to sponsoring agencies.
  • Maintain Federal Child Care Standards and Provincial Licensing Requirements.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment for children and to create a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere.
  • Regularly contact, and act as a resource for, parents and caregivers.
  • Encourage parental involvement in the Headstart Program.
  • Plan and implement a program that reflects the philosophy of the Mistawasis Nêhiyawak Daycare program.
  • Coordinate the programming of the Early Learning with the Early Learning Curriculum.
  • Ensure that records are kept on all children in the program.
  • To be aware of, administer and comply with Mistawasis Nêhiyawak personnel policies and collective agreement.


  • Formal training in Early Childhood Development- Level II Qualification is required.
  • 1-3 years’ experience in the Early Learning profession.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and initiative.
  • Creative problem solving skills.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Must possess good working knowledge of computer technology
  • Understanding and awareness of local cultural milieu
  • Must practice a healthy life-style
  • Valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle
  • Requires strong human relations skills and the ability to work with people and students in conflict situation.
  • Valid Standard Infant First Aid, CPR
  • Must be eligible to receive a current, original Canadian Criminal Record Check (CPIC) and Vulnerable Sector check ;
