Job Summary

Mistawasis Nehiyawak is seeking a competent, confident, motivated individual to fill the position of a School Principal for the 2024 – 2025 school year. Mistawasis Nehiyawak High school is located in Mistawasis Nehiyawak First Nation, Saskatchewan. We pride ourselves in offering Cree language and Indigenous based knowledge at our school and believe in the power of culture in education. The successful applicant will have the knowledge and confidence in bringing together foundational knowledge throughout the school environment and be willing to learn about our thriving community of Mistawasis Nehiyawak

Reporting to the Director of Education, the successful candidate will possess strong academic background, proven leadership abilities, and will work in a collegial environment using a site-based management approach.  Working collaboratively with school staff, the Principal with further possess demonstrated competencies in fostering effective relationships, providing instructional leadership, proven ability to support a learning community, and the ability to assist in the management of school operational resources. This position may also include some classroom instruction

Job Duties

  • Have a strong knowledge and / or experience with First Nations people and communities
  • Create a culture of high expectations for students and staff and collaborate effectively with administrators, teachers, support staff, parents, and the greater community.
  • Cultivate a climate of mutual respect with students promoting engagement and have a proven ability to build relationships.
  • Provide leadership in literacy, assessment, and reporting.
  • Demonstrate effective communication, facilitation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Promote and model lifelong learning for students and staff.
  • Effectively plan, organize, and manage the human and physical resources of the school.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Facilitate capacity to provide collaborative leadership and engagement of the community
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of technology to enhance pedagogy.
  • Lead and demonstrate a commitment to student success.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and a readiness to take on roles and challenges as they arise to meet School and community goals

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelors Degree in Education or equivalent.
  • Masters of Education Degree; considered an asset
  • Saskatchewan Teaching Certificate
  • Minimum of 3 years of successful classroom teaching experience
  • Previous experience as a school-based administrator; considered an asset
  • Standard First Aid/CPR
  • Must successfully complete Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
