Summary

The Health Medical Transportation Coordinator assists clients and organizes the Medical Transportation program to meet the needs of clients and ensure the program guidelines are being followed.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carry out general office functions in accordance with the Mistawasis Nêhiyawak/FNIH-NIHB transportation program guidelines;
  • Informing Band Membership of the Non-Insured Health Benefit (NIHB) and clients responsibilities in regards to Medical Transportation;
  • Maintain liaison with the community and other related agencies;
  • Coordinate medical transportation trips in accordance to FNIH-NIHB Guidelines;
  • Schedule appointments, confirm and notify;
  • Record odometer readings;
  • Coordinate transportation fleet scheduled and required maintenance and repairs etc;
  • Complete required FNIH-NHIB reporting (monthly, quarterly, yearly);
  • Registration of medical taxis;
  • Assist FNIH-NIHB with coordination of hotels, meals and transport for emergency hospitalizations and after-hour emergencies
  • Education, awareness and updates of membership on benefits and processes for accessing services
  • Monthly log sheets of each trip that goes out every day;
  • Ensure taxis are cleaned regularly.

  • The Administrative Clerk must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:

    Qualifications

    • Grade Twelve(12) or better with one (1) years’ experience in a clerical field
    • Have excellent oral and written communication skills in order to type letters and answers phone in a polite and courteous manner.
    • Possess the ability to work with little or no supervision and be a team player
    • Must have the ability to maintain professionalism in all situations with the ability to effectively deal with the general public, Chief and Council, fellow employees and most importantly the general membership
    • Must possess excellent organization skills
    • Have the skills of how the health policies and regulations are administered
    • Possess the knowledge of effective office procedures, techniques and file maintenance and data processing potentials
    • Have excellent computer skills, typing skills and a basic understanding of Data Bases
    • Be familiar with the operations and maintenance of office equipment
    • Must be able to coordinate and process medical transportation requests including the verification of medical appointments and confirming
    • appointments with medical facilities
    • Must be able to prepare reports and have attention to detail in the management of manual and electronic health records
    • Must be punctual, dependable, and ensure that confidential matters remain confidential

    Working Conditions

    • The Coordinator will spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers, which can cause muscle strain. The Coordinator will also have to do some lifting of supplies and materials from time to time.
    • The incumbent is located in a busy, open area office. The incumbent is faced with constant interruptions and must meet with others on a regular basis.
    • The incumbent must spend long hours in intense concentration. The incumbent must also spend long hours on the computer logging trips and preparing reporting documents which requires attention to detail and high levels of accuracy
    • There are a number of deadlines associated with this position, which may cause significant stress.
    • The incumbent must also deal with a wide variety of people on various issues.

    Conditions of Employment

    • Must pass a Criminal Record Check (CPIC) and Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS).
    • Must possess a valid Saskatchewan Driver’s License and reliable vehicle
