JOB SUMMARY
Permanent full-time HEO/1A Driver (8 hour shift, 40 hr/week, Monday – Friday) (multiple positions)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Heavy Equipment Operator (HEO) Responsibilities:
- Operating heavy equipment such as backhoes, bulldozers, loaders, Excavators and graders to excavate, move, load and grade earth, rock, gravel or other materials during construction and related activities, while strictly adhering to all safety procedures and regulations
- Responsible for loading/unloading equipment from vehicles used for transport
- Inspecting all equipment before and after usage, performing general knowledge of equipment maintenance, greasing/fueling and checking fluid levels, completing minor repair work as needed, and reporting any repairs needed to direct supervisor
- Monitoring performance and adjusting settings as required to perform tasks correctly
- Tracking scheduled maintenance of equipment and filling out performance records to report problems with equipment and track where and when it was used
- Performing road work, excavation work, and installation of underground utilities.
- Work in conformance with safe work practices, procedures, and specific work site conditions.
- Respond to signals and directions of onsite personnel and work in coordination. A knowledge of rigging procedures would be an asset.
- Working in tight areas and in close proximity to workers, underground utilities, overhead power lines, and the general public.
- Truck Driver Responsibilities:
- Ability to drive and operate trucks safely and for long periods of time
- Pre-trip and post-trip inspections while performing preventive maintenance on their trucks to ensure safety while driving.
- Follow accident procedures and report road incidents to the dispatcher as well as reporting mechanical problems to maintenance personnel.
- Vac Truck (Septic) Driver Responsibilities:
- The duties of a Vac truck driver include transporting, loading, and unloading equipment and providing pumping service for septic tank and portable restroom units. Vac truck drivers typically drive a preset route and service septic tank clients and portable restroom units on that route. The job requires you to lift the heavy concrete lid and remove hose off of truck and into septic tank. If schedule is not kept, raw sewage overflows will occur.
- Garbage Truck Driver Responsibilities:
- The duties of a garbage truck driver are to empty all household garbage containers on a preset route and haul all garbage to highway 55 landfill once a week. If schedule is not kept, garbage containers become overfilled and domestic and wild animals rip into garbage.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILL
- Current Class 3A or 1A driver’s license
- Experience digging around utility infrastructures is an asset
- Willing and able to work in severe weather conditions while prioritizing safety
- A strong work ethic, positive attitude, and good character
- Reliable and able to work both independently and as a team player
- CSA Certified safety boots.
- WHMIS and CSTS Certification or equivalent is an asset.
- Minimum HEO certification
- Positive attitude with an attention to safety.
- Have garments available to match variable weather (rain, cold and hot conditions).
- Traffic laws/ DOT regulations/ driving knowledge
- Ability to lift 100 pounds repeatedly throughout day
- Able to pass random drug tests
- Listening and verbal communication skills
- Dependability
- Successful candidates must have a clean driving record
- Keep commercial driver license up to date.
