SUMMARY

Mistawasis Nêhiyawak is presently seeking a passionate, dedicated professional to fill the position of Crime Prevention Coordinator.

Under the direct supervision of the CFS Director of Prevention Services, the Crime Prevention Coordinator plays a key role in supporting community safety by planning and delivering culturally appropriate crime prevention programs in Mistawasis Nêhiyawak. This role focuses on engaging community, including youth, Elders, and families. The Crime Prevention Coordinator will working with the community to identify risk factors, promote healing, and build resilience through education, outreach, and collaboration.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement crime prevention programs tailored to the specific needs and strengths of the community.
  • Collaborate with community members, Elders, and youth to identify safety concerns and build community-led solutions.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement, schools, health services, and justice organizations to provide education, intervention, and support services.
  • Organize community engagement sessions, workshops, and outreach activities focused on safety awareness and crime prevention.
  • Support the implementation of restorative justice and community healing initiatives.
  • Monitor and report on community safety issues and trends; contribute to evaluations and planning.
  • Support data collection, record keeping, and preparation of reports and grant documentation.
  • Promote awareness of safety issues through community events, social media and local communications.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Diploma or degree in Criminology, Social Work, Indigenous Studies, or related field (or relevant experience in community work and safety)
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with community members
    • Understanding of trauma-informed care, restorative practices, and traditional approaches to justice.
    • The ideal candidate will have several years of experience in related field of Justice.
    • Able to plan, develop and implement strategic plans & processes.
    • Supervision skills, Evaluation skills, Proposal writing skills.
    • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
    • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with Program heads, outside agencies, funding agencies and general public.
    • Ability to meet deadlines.
    • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
    • Criminal Record Check and a Vulnerable Records Check is required.
    • Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
