Summary

The Skills Development Coordinator works as a part of the Skills Development Team to plan, coordinate, and support skills development programming for children and youth within Mistawasis Nêhiyawak. This position supports an integrated, community-based model that aligns services across Health, Education, Child & Family Services, and Employment & Training. The Coordinator’s role is to bring opportunities into the community by coordinating instructors, programs, and partnerships.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with departments to assess service gaps and develop coordinated work plans and activity calendars.
  • Collaboration with Departments to develop baseline data and tracking process to ensure access to services and supports are available for children and youth.
  • In collaboration with Departments, program development to fill gaps in services and supports for children and youth with a focus on athletics, schooling and cultural identity
  • Consult with children, youth, and families to identify programming needs and barriers to access.
  • In collaboration with Departments, development of parental engagement initiatives to build capacity within families to support their children and youth outside of school hours
  • Coordinate skills development, recreation, athletic, wellness, and cultural programming for children and youth outside of school hours.
  • Coordinate age-appropriate programs, seasonal camps, and enhanced summer programming.
  • Arrange and coordinate instructors, coaches, and facilitators for youth skills development
  • Collaborate with other programs to coordinate access to facilities and equipment.
  • Support mental health and wellness initiatives, including bullying prevention programming.
  • Develop partnerships with neighboring communities to connect youth with broader athletic, educational, and cultural opportunities.
  • Support the development on age-appropriate skills development framework and activity guides.
  • Coordinate and facilitate required training for staff and program facilitators, including duty to report and working with youth
  • Collect baseline data, track participation, and support reporting requirements related to Jordan’s Principle funding.
  • Maintain program documentation and ensure compliance with Mistawasis Nêhiyawak policies and procedures.

    • Ability to engage effectively with children, youth, families, staff, and community partners
    • Strong computer and administrative skills.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in a social services, education, kinesiology, or related field
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in program planning, coordination or service delivery with children and youth.
  • Experience coordinating sports, physical activity, wellness or skills programming is an asset.
  • Knowledge of age-appropriate skills development and physical literacy is an asset.
  • Management or coordination experience is an asset

Other Requirements

  • Flexible work hours will be required

  • Travel outside community will be required

  • All employees are subject to Mistawasis Nêhiyawak Personnel Policy

  • Duty to report training

  • First Aid and CPR

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving work environment.

  • Must possess a valid Saskatchewan driver’s license, a reliable vehicle.

  • Must provide a clean, current, original, Canadian Criminal Record Check (CPIC) and Vulnerable

  • Sector Check (VSS) as a condition of employment.

  • Must live a “healthy lifestyle” and meet the requirements of Mistawasis Nêhiyawak Fit for Duty policy
