Summary
The Skills Development Workers work as a part of the Skills Development Team to plan, coordinate, and support skills development programming for children and youth within Mistawasis Nêhiyawak. These positions support an integrated, community-based model that aligns services across Health, Education, Child & Family Services, and Employment & Training. The Skills Development Workers roles are to assist the Skills Development Coordinator in bringing opportunities into the community by coordinating instructors, programs, and partnerships.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with Skills Development Coordinator and Departments to assess service gaps and develop coordinated work plans and activity calendars.
- Assist in collaboration with Departments to develop baseline data and tracking process to ensure access to services and supports are available for children and youth.
- In collaboration with Departments, assist in program development to fill gaps in services and supports for children and youth with a focus on athletics, schooling and cultural identity
- Assist in consultation with children, youth, and families to identify programming needs and barriers to access.
- In collaboration with Departments, assist Skills Development Coordinator in development of parental engagement initiatives to build capacity within families to support their children and youth outside of school hours
- Assist in coordination and implementation of skills development, recreation, athletic, wellness, and cultural programming for children and youth outside of school hours.
- Assist in coordination and implementation of age-appropriate programs, seasonal camps, and enhanced summer programming.
- Assist in coordination of instructors, coaches, and facilitators for youth skills development
Assist in collaboration with other programs to coordinate access to facilities and equipment.
Assist in supporting mental health and wellness initiatives, including bullying prevention programming.
Assist in the development on age-appropriate skills development framework and activity guides.
Collect baseline data, track participation, and support reporting requirements related to Jordan’s Principle funding.

- Ability to engage effectively with children, youth, families, staff, and community partners
Qualifications
- High School Diploma with a minimum of 2 years work experience in a social service or education related field
- Experience coordinating sports, physical activity, wellness or skills programming is an asset.
- Knowledge of age-appropriate skills development and physical literacy is an asset.
- Management or coordination experience is an asset

Must possess a valid Saskatchewan driver’s license, a reliable vehicle.

Must provide a clean, current, original, Canadian Criminal Record Check (CPIC) and Vulnerable Sector Check (VSS) as a condition of employment.

Must live a “healthy lifestyle” and meet the requirements of Mistawasis Nêhiyawak Fit for Duty policy
