SUMMARY

The Surveillance Operator is responsible for continuously monitoring community surveillance systems to support the safety and protection of Mistawasis Nêhiyawak community assets, facilities, and public spaces. Working on a rotating schedule to provide 24-hour coverage, the Surveillance Operator observes and documents activities through surveillance systems, identifies potential concerns, and reports incidents to the appropriate authorities.

The Surveillance Operator plays a key role in supporting community safety through accurate monitoring, documentation, and communication while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor surveillance cameras and related monitoring systems on a continuous basis.
  • Observe and document unusual, suspicious, or unsafe activities occurring on community properties and public spaces.
  • Maintain detailed surveillance logs, incident reports, and shift summaries.
  • Review recorded footage as directed by the Crime Prevention Coordinator.
  • Report incidents, concerns, and equipment issues promptly to the Crime Prevention Coordinator.
  • Communicate with RCMP, emergency responders, or designated personnel when directed or when emergency situations require escalation.
  • Maintain surveillance records in accordance with organizational policies and confidentiality requirements.
  • Ensure surveillance equipment is functioning properly and report maintenance requirements.
  • Assist with the retrieval and preservation of surveillance footage for investigations, insurance claims, or other authorized purposes.
  • Participate in training related to surveillance systems, community safety, and incident reporting.
  • Maintain professional conduct and strict confidentiality regarding all observed activities and information.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Crime Prevention Coordinator.

    • Ability to remain alert and attentive for extended periods.
    • Strong observation and analytical skills.
    • Ability to identify and accurately document unusual activities and incidents.
    • Strong written communication and report-writing skills.
    • Working knowledge of surveillance technology and monitoring systems.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Knowledge of Mistawasis community facilities and operations is considered an asset.
    • Cultural sensitivity and professionalism in all interactions.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Minimum one (1) year of experience in surveillance monitoring, security operations centre monitoring, dispatch, law enforcement support, or a related field.
    • Experience operating digital surveillance systems is considered an asset.
    • Strong computer skills and proficiency with surveillance software and reporting systems.
    • Valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s License.
    • Drivers abstract
    • Valid First Aid/CPR-C Certification.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS

    • Safety-Sensitive Position: Subject to Drug and Alcohol Testing.
    • Must provide a current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search prior to employment and periodically thereafter.
    • Must maintain a valid Saskatchewan Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
    • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and shift rotations.
    • Position operates on a rotating schedule providing twenty-four (24) hour, seven (7) day per week surveillance coverage.
    • Must be available to work day, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts as scheduled.
    • Must sign and adhere to a Confidentiality and Code of Conduct Agreement.
